The Lions Spirit Project
The Star Lions are launching a new ongoing community service project call "Lions Spirit". The spirit of Lionism is serving others which is the essence of this idea. Lions will be helping individuals in the community who need an extra hand. Perhaps a senior citizen needs help with yard clean-up or a Vet with a disability needs some painting done or maybe a single mom could use some help with minor maintenance issues around the house-these are the kinds of things that the Lions Club is ready to do.
If you are in need of a helping hand or if you know someone in the community who could use the Lions' help, please contact the Star Lions for for more information.
Veterans Buried at Star Cemetery Honored with American Flags
The Star Lions place small American flags on graves at the Star Cemetery to honor our Veterans on Memorial Day, Indepenedence Day, and Veterans Day. Approximately 225 graves are identified by either information on the headstone about the Veteran's service or on a brass foot stone which has been provided by the military. There are, however, several graves of Veterans that are not marked in any way. The cemetery caretakers are aware of some of them and the Lions remember those with flags. But others are left without a flag, simply because no one knows.
The Lions would like the graves of all the Veterans to be honored with a flag, so the help of the public is needed. If your friend or loved one served in the military and is buried at Star Cemetery and does not have any type of marker signifying their service, please contact the Lions.

Star Lions Donate Money to Local Groups
Through their fundraising efforts in 2008 and 2009, the Star Lions Club was able to donate money to several local groups and charities. Checks for $300 each were given to the Star Senior Center, the Star Volunteer Firefighters Association, the Star Branch Library, the Star Elementary Boosters, and the Star Food Bank operated by Star Outreach.
Representatives from each group accepted the donation at the Lions meeting on September 14th at City Hall. A short video was shown about the work of Lions Clubs around the country and around the world.
For more information about how you can become a Lion and raise money for your community, please contact the club.
Star Mayor's Scholarship
Star Mayor Nathan Mitchell has launched a scholarship program for graduating seniors in the Star area. In this inaugural year of the Star Mayor's Scholarship, Mayor Mitchell has requested the assistance of the Star Lions Club, of which he is a member.
Seniors graduating in the spring of 2010 who are planning post secondary education are invited to apply.
